Muramukee! (=Good Evening)

"Oof!": That's Muriel en me finally putting down our bags in our new room.

After walking around the whole of Butare with our dear friend Noela for 2 days -we did quite some site seeing and now we know half of the people in town!-, we have finally settled into our new room owned by Innocent (the name suites him!). As we spent another evening in the dark last night -ofcourse we didn't pack our Petzel lamps, nor matches in our hand luggage- thinking on how having electricity is sooooo nice -recharging our phones, i-pod, etc in the internet cafe where then the electricity went down aswell...- we were really looking forward to 'a little, cozy place of our own!

This morning we got up at 6 am, fortunately the sun is already up at that time, took a cold shower -it helps! and it's not really like we had a choice- and went past the bakery to the Kabutare District Hospital. We sat in a staff meeting for 1 hour -they did speak French, but unfortunataly Rwandans tend to mumble...- then waited outside for another hour -the direction and docters had other matters to discuss- and then they talked some more outside -Dr. Jean, Johnny and Stephan. By that time our batteries were back to a very low level, and so we were shown around the maternity, delivery room, and operation room, but unfortunately there was not much going on at the time -but we hope to be able to see and help in many deliveries, cesarians, etc. Tomorrow we'll normally be following the consultations -as it is a district hospital it has many things: gynaecology/obstetrics, pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, HIV centre, tuberculosis centre,...- and follow the tour of the patients. And as they've advised us to do some 'on calls', we're looking forward to being picked up by the ambulance in the middle of the night for emergency procedures... (to be continued) as well as field trips to the more local health centres during the day.

Just got a phone call that the rest of our luggage from Kigali will be delivered by Niels and Valerie -belgians who live nearby- so I will continue after dinner!
